We catch up with the talented force behind one of our favourite labels,
This is Genevieve...
Hi Genevieve! Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us. You seem to be attracting more and more publicity every day - do you still get a kick out of seeing your designs in the glossies?Every time! It’s definitely a thrill to get something you made published. There is a lot of hard work that goes into the creation process so when its finished and people pick up on it, you get pretty excited by it.
Can you tell us a little about your upcoming winter collection? The winter collection was inspired by a one hit wonder song by Q Lazzarus ‘Goodbye Horses’. Some say the words of the song mentioning "horses" are representative of the five senses in eastern philosophy - the things that keep us tied to the physical/material plane of existence. When you can transcend the limitations of these senses and achieve a higher level of consciousness, you are leaving the "horses" behind - "flying over them". Most people will recognise the song from
Silence of the Lambs in the scene where Buffalo Bill dresses up as woman and dances around while filming himself.
What's your background in the fashion industry?Previous to starting my own label I’ve worked in production, sales, accounts, and PR.
What's your favourite piece from the summer collection? From first summer the criss cross back studded dress. From second summer the mesh panelled body suit.
What will we be wearing in AW10?Chunky jewels as embellishment, midriffs layered, animal print.
You've had so much success in the short time since launching your label - what's next for This is Genevieve?Thank you! There is a lot of exciting projects on the boil for the label, if we can continue to create and grow the way we have been I will be super happy.
Can you describe your label in five words? This is my dream job
Who are your celeb stye icons?Kate, Leigh and Little Edie
What inspires you most?A day by the ocean.
