Carrie wondered if she could add an extra floor to her wardrobe
I'm in need of a serious style overhaul. Not in a 'my wardrobe is overflowing and I still can't find anything to wear' way. In the 'I literally have no idea how the items in my wardrobe came to be' way.
Sure, there are some key pieces I love dearly (and wear at least once a week), but after being on a tight budget over the past two years, I find myself craving an all-out, full-blown, max-out-the-credit-card shopping mission. And soon! (In reality, I'll be purchasing a few carefully selected pieces within budget to be my staples for the year and will update them with purse-friendly chain store buys.)
In an attempt to prevent future 'I'll wear it next time I'm in Bali' and 'maybe I could wear it with opaques in winter' piles that spend another two years hidden in the closet before being delivered to Vinnies, I need a plan.
As much as I would love to, I actual don't get to shop all that often (damn saving for a house and all that jazz). So before I click 'add to cart', I'm asking myself: What do I want my style to be in 2012? There's no time like right now for a change, after all!
I love...
- Bright colours - especially cobalt, turquoise, coral and lime right now
- Graphic prints
- Maxi dresses and skirts
- Unusual accessories
- Bold clutches
- Statement necklaces
- Sandals, sandals and more sandals
- Totally inappropriate heels which I buy and then don't wear enough because I tower over my friends and feel like a giant!

Even though I don't want to think about it, we're going to start moving into the cooler months soon in Oz (perhaps a little later than others up here in Queensland) which means it's a good idea to invest in some trans-seasonal pieces.
Maxi skirts, wide-leg pants, sheer long-sleeved shirts and light jackets are on my radar.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's post when I present my (dream) shopping list.

Great stuff, you have the same inspirations as me :) I really want to start wearing more creative, unique and interesting pieces, so I've started to focus on prints and bright colours.
It's hard though in little NZ where you mostly have to buy stuff online, and so don't have the buying confidence that try before you buy has, and being on a tight budget!
You should post up where you find your cheap alternatives to your inspiration :)
It's amazing how cheap but bold pieces can really update your wardrobe, isn't it.

I started with this great polka-dot top from Cotton On and found these bright wedges on sale at Wittner for $59.95! The skirt is from Zara (old).
Will keep you updated with future purchases as I find them. Luckily buying online these days is so much easier than it used to be.
Thanks for commenting!
